Top 5 dishes (and glasses, perhaps) to try at ‘THE GOOSE AND GRIDIRON,FORT’

THE GOOSE AND GRIDIRON is a cute and comfy eatery in the fort area, just a minutes walk from the CST station. The outdoor seating is quite pretty with plants and colorful lights all around you. The inside, air conditioned section is dimly light with good music and having a somewhat vintage decor of plates, posters and frames hanging on the walls.

Without further adeu, lets move on to,

TOP 5 DISHES (AND GLASSES PERHAPS) TO TRY AT THE GOOSE AND GRIDIRON.

LIT AF –

You can’t just name a drink LIT AF, it should deserve the title, and the cocktail that reached our table sure did. It was a thin and tall cylinder filled with tempting looking liquid. So its a mixture of almost every possible alcohol I can think of.

IMG_20180606_165410_268.jpg

Tequila, vodka, light rum, gin, and thankfully, a splash of cola. I personally love cola, and so I built up some courage to taste the monstrous drink, and was delighted that amongst the liquor, my taste buds identified cola. The size sure comes in handy as you probably won’t be needing another drink through out your meal.

IMG_20180606_142741_525.jpg

The fusion was delectable, and serving it in that huge tube of a glass attached an element of fun to it.

BBQ CHICKEN BURGER –

So the full name of this dish on the menu is ‘BBQ chicken burger with caramelized onions’. The size was a tiny disappointment, and those big buns made the filling looked small too.

IMG_20180606_145252_796.jpg

The fries on the sides were crispy and nicely salted, though would have loved some more of those. So the burger, to my surprise, was quite juicy thanks to the BBQ sauce and melted cheese. The chicken slabs in between the bun were tenderly soft but lacked any peculiar taste. So what you could in general taste was a mild sweetness due to the caramelized onions, the burnt sweet flavor of BBQ sauce with the cheese and butter from the buns.

IMG_20180606_165740_452.jpg

The burger was a good deal, considering the price.

MARGHERITA PIZZA TOPPED WITH CRISPY PORK BACON –

So I have been hearing stuff about how heavenly delicious bacon is, so I grabbed this opportunity to try it out. The pizza was square shaped, which is to my liking. The pork slices were tiny and hardly one on every slice. It did look tempting, those brownish pink cuties on the sea of white cheese and red pizza sauce.

IMG_20180606_172358_687.jpg

When I tasted it, I was taken aback by the strong presence of its flavor, despite of its puny size. So what I deduced is that bacon produces a very particular and sharp taste and even the slightest portion of it can bring a blast of flavors.

IMG_20180606_171852_131.jpg

So the bacon somewhat overpowered against all the other flavors of a garlic-y pizza sauce and smooth cheese. Also the thin crust made the pizza really light, crunchy and more enjoyable.

BEERMOSA –

Surprisingly, I don’t indulge myself into cocktails, and yet 2 of the 5 entries are cocktails. That brings us to beermosa, and if you could trace its origins to its cousin ‘mimosa’, you could easily see what its made of.

IMG_20180606_172245_885.jpg

A simple fusion of beer and orange juice, this drink is delightfully, what do I say, bubbly and cheerful, perhaps. Its like you realize you are growing up, but are not actually an adult yet.So its THE drink for you if you are in your early 20’s. The young adult craving some beer, while the inner child still happily committed to orange juice!

IMG_20180606_165554_630.jpg

The slice of lime does the trick of making it photogenic and drool worthy. Its a perfect example of ‘cherry on the cake’, something which you hardly eat but the dish is incomplete without one!

COFFEE INFUSED ROSGULLA –

Each ‘Top 5’ list has to have a dessert! This dessert earned its spot here, not because it was mouth watering, had insta worthy photos or was loaded with nutella. But, its here because of the concept and its decently well execution.

IMG_20180606_171930_305.jpg

So rosgulla is a Bengali dessert whose main ingredient is coagulated milk and sugar. So what they serve here is, instead of milk, rosgulla are made up primarily of coffee and with crushed cookie crumbs inside. Its served with a scoop of coffee ice cream and garnished with biscuit crumble.

IMG_20180606_171816_066.jpg

It might not be the most attractive or tasty dessert, but their innovation and efforts are worth appreciation.

TOP 5 mouth-watering dishes to hog upon at ANDAGROUND.

I am an egg person, and just love how you can turn up the innovation notch using this simple ingredient. ANDAGROUND is a food truck which had made me intrigued and egg-cited about visiting them. The thing which makes me avoid food trucks is the idea of having a ‘on the go meal’ while not being able to rest on your bottom. Fortunately, they have solved my problem by providing a decent seating arrangement while we indulge into some lip smacking tasty treats. So lets get down with,

TOP 5 mouth-watering dishes to hog upon at ANDAGROUND.

EGG/CHICKEN PAAPLET

Starting off with my favorite dish, this one is truly finger licking good. Trust me when I say that it was a quite a challenge for me to choose favorites here, but I had to settle for this yummy affair. What it has in store for you is a complete culinary roller coaster. You start with a big, 2 egg omelette which has chopped onions and some regular spices added to it. Feeling its fluffy-ness, you try to take a bite with your fork. Folding it in half, the insides are filled with pieces of boiled egg, making the apparatus look more big, and tempting. Then comes the most important ingredient of the dish, the medium spicy, red colored, thick mughlai gravy. Top that up with some grated cheese and chopped cilantro.

IMG_20180318_112603_642.jpg

Paaplet is a blast of flavors. Mughlai gravy plays the role of filling your taste buds and taking them for a ride. Egg whites, known for their smooth texture, slide off gracefully inside your mouth. Omelette is what fills you up and still makes you want to eat some more, just a bit more. Cheese not only makes it look presentable, but adds a bit of savory tang to the meal. Served with crunchy, butter toasted bread, you’ll be asking for seconds before you know it!

IMG_20180401_222506_583.jpg

They also have a chicken version of this item, in which minced chicken replaces the boiled eggs filling. I personally prefer more of eggs on my plate, but if you are a poultry lover, then by all means go ahead and try the upgraded version of my most loved selection from their menu.

CHICKEN CHEESE GRENADES

This dish is their USP, and it very well deserves to be. Whenever I visit this place, two portions of this bad boy has to be on my table, without fail. You try it yourself and tell me that you didn’t like it, I can bet against it. These yummy explosives are as simple as it can get. Crunchy fried bread rolls, filled with juicy minced chicken. Yes its that simple. You take a bite and the first thing that hits you is that ‘I can make this at home’, and I give that as a compliment. Of course, not to forget being topped with thick liquid cheese, and then a sprinkle of chilly flakes, which works for appealing factor as well as a pleasant spicy impression.

IMG_20180407_195900_159.jpg

The contrast of crunchy fried outer layer and the peculiar texture of juicy minced chicken makes this dish the most lovable of all. Again, also available in egg and paneer versions, it practically impossible to get down to those toppings, after you have tasted the best.

EK NO. PANEER BHURJI

My vegetarian buddies, people who believe that humans are above killing for food now, you shouldn’t get disappointed reading the name of this food truck. While your friends are enjoying egg and chicken, you can (try to) make them jealous by trying the only weapon on the vegetarian arsenal, COTTAGE CHEESE! You too can enjoy some optically as well as tastefully pleasurable dishes here. The best, among the few they have to offer is Ek number paneer bhurji.

Ek number / ek no. is a slang which we, mumbaikars especially love to use in out everyday conversation. It literally means ‘No.1″, and translates to ‘amazing’ or ‘the best’ in this context.

IMG_20180407_200040_615.jpg

Though it doesn’t earn the title of being the best scrambled cottage cheese from side, it sure was delicious to make my hands greasy in buttery bread and the spicy paneer bhurji. Paneer chunks scrambled and then put onto a pan containing sauteed veggies and aromatic Indian spices. This one goes well with that butter bread we all like.

MAGIZZA

If you are someone who loves maggie and cheese and eggs, then this fusion dish is absolutely for you! So the base to this pizza is an omelette, and then its filled with a thick and hefty amount of maggie. Topped with cheese, oregano, chilly flakes, coriander and you do have an add on of chicken sausages which is what I opted for myself. It has that unique and tender balance of flavors, which is quite good.

IMG_20180321_210446_312.jpg

The omelette which serves as the base, does egg-xactly what a pizza base should, provide balancing flavors and not overpower the dish. That job is done by pizza toppings, which here is the masala maggie. Everyone loves these two minutes noodles, and this egg-xquisite way serving it in pizza style deserves nothing but love, appreciation and contentful burps! A stodgy and delicious dish.

IMG_20180317_215638318_HDR.jpg

EGG MONACO

This dish is somewhat similar to the previous one, in the sense that this too has a pizza representation. Here, the base is made of bread, which is coated with egg omelette, something on the lines of a french toast. Its like there is an omelette, whose insides are of bread. Then its topped with a good amount of cheese and then cut into square pieces. Then each piece has half of a boiled egg, serving as the cherry on the cake, and then topped with onions and coriander.

IMG_20180524_171612_517.jpg

Its something similar to fusion of pizza, egg, omelette and sev puri. What you actually taste is the boiled egg with cheese, and a bit of spice and crunch due to the chopped onions. Though I do wonder why its called egg monaco….

So here was a delicious ‘To eat’ list the next time you are in the Baner-Aundh area and looking for some reasonably affordable and delicious egg preparations.

Happy Burping!!!

TOP 5 dishes to try at THE AMERICAN JOINT (Thane).

Being a food reviewer on Zomato, I have always loved to try on new dishes and places alike. I try and refrain calling myself a ‘foodie’, as reviewing all these years has made a ‘reviewer/blogger’ out of me. So the point I wanted to make is, I write these blogs/reviews just as any other customer visiting the restaurant, being honest to my fellow food enthusiasts. This is NOT a promotion of any kind, just my opinion which may differ form yours.

Just a bit about THE AMERICAN JOINT before we begin talking about what to order here. Its a really bright and appealing cafe/restaurant, which has its branches in Bandra and Borivali too. Vibrant walls, monochrome white furniture, and rich green colored cushions makes up for a rather soothing environment. Their motto being ‘in CHEESE we trust’ you can’t help yourself but go for some diet-breaking munchies! (They do offer some deliciously healthy diet food as well.) One more important point is that they serve many of their dishes specially prepared for vegans, so if you are one, this place is definitely for you.

Just a teeny-tiny reminder that this list is not ranked, so the dish numbered 1 isn’t the tastiest of them all, just describing them in the sequence I ordered them.

1. HONG KONG FRIES

A mandarin twist added to our favourite snack. The sauce gives a nice balance of soy and chinese flavours, also dipping the fries in cold mayonnaise completes the magic trick. Fries provide a perfect base to experiment on with different seasonings, and this one is done right.

IMG_20180131_090209_684.jpg

Price – 149 Rupees

2.CHIMICHANGA

For everyone who probably have heard this dish for the first time, its basically deep-fried burrito, a mexican delicacy. I too was introduced to this item recently, thanks to our favourite superhero, Deadpool!

The first thing you take in while they place it on your table is its presentation, its stodgy-ness, a complete meal in itself. A heavy burrito, filled with baked beans, cheese, veggies and chickpea paste, hugged by tortilla flour. Dip it in the fryer and what comes out is a more tasty and crunchy version of it. Served with salsa, a bit of salad, tortilla chips and some sour cream to dip them in. A Mexican staple food, highly recommended by me.

IMG_20180123_073947_124.jpg

This is what awesome looks like! Price – 350 Rupees

3.MINTY HAPPINESS

Mint is something which goes well with almost everything, providing a refreshing touch to it. Minty happiness is one such dessert which you can’t have enough of.

A hefty scoop of rich mint choco-chip ice cream, sandwiched between crunchy chocolate cookie. Topped with whipped cream, with a sprinkling of chocolate and oreo crumbs. Don’t forget the choco-stick and the mint leaf which is like a cherry on the cake.

That’s it, I will now let the other picture speak a thousand more words…

IMG_20180122_073019_252.jpg

Price – 179 Rupees

4.FERRERO ROCHER MOUSSE

A true chocolaty decadence. A creamy and thick preparation, with a smooth, melt in the mouth texture.Topped with a ferrero rocher and then biscuit dust, which not only provides a good brown and white contrast, but gives it a plain, likeable flavour too. Thick chocolate sauce drizzled over the dessert again adds to the eye candy factor.

IMG_20180309_160155_791.jpg

Price – 219 Rupees

IMG_20180126_114606_289.jpg

If you thought ferrero rocher was happiness, think again. Its a rich dessert, one which makes you want to break the stereotype and start your meal with it!

5.B-OVERLOAD

Another dessert entry in the top 5, and a sandwiched one as well. This time, creamy brownie ice cream is sandwiched between freshly baked dark chocolate brownie waffles. Again the topping of whipped cream,choco-stick and chocolate sprinkles. No extra points for guessing that B stands for brownie here!

IMG_20180309_143857_931.jpg
Price – 279 Rupees

IMG_20180309_144011_554.jpg

So this concludes the list of TOP 5 dishes to try on at THE AMERICAN JOINT.

I am sorry that 3 of those 5 were desserts, but it just shows how damn delicious their desserts are! Loved them, and loved them all!

Happy Burping!!!
