Top 5 dishes (and glasses, perhaps) to try at ‘THE GOOSE AND GRIDIRON,FORT’

THE GOOSE AND GRIDIRON is a cute and comfy eatery in the fort area, just a minutes walk from the CST station. The outdoor seating is quite pretty with plants and colorful lights all around you. The inside, air conditioned section is dimly light with good music and having a somewhat vintage decor of plates, posters and frames hanging on the walls.

Without further adeu, lets move on to,

TOP 5 DISHES (AND GLASSES PERHAPS) TO TRY AT THE GOOSE AND GRIDIRON.

LIT AF –

You can’t just name a drink LIT AF, it should deserve the title, and the cocktail that reached our table sure did. It was a thin and tall cylinder filled with tempting looking liquid. So its a mixture of almost every possible alcohol I can think of.

IMG_20180606_165410_268.jpg

Tequila, vodka, light rum, gin, and thankfully, a splash of cola. I personally love cola, and so I built up some courage to taste the monstrous drink, and was delighted that amongst the liquor, my taste buds identified cola. The size sure comes in handy as you probably won’t be needing another drink through out your meal.

The fusion was delectable, and serving it in that huge tube of a glass attached an element of fun to it.

BBQ CHICKEN BURGER –

So the full name of this dish on the menu is ‘BBQ chicken burger with caramelized onions’. The size was a tiny disappointment, and those big buns made the filling looked small too.

The fries on the sides were crispy and nicely salted, though would have loved some more of those. So the burger, to my surprise, was quite juicy thanks to the BBQ sauce and melted cheese. The chicken slabs in between the bun were tenderly soft but lacked any peculiar taste. So what you could in general taste was a mild sweetness due to the caramelized onions, the burnt sweet flavor of BBQ sauce with the cheese and butter from the buns.

The burger was a good deal, considering the price.

MARGHERITA PIZZA TOPPED WITH CRISPY PORK BACON –

So I have been hearing stuff about how heavenly delicious bacon is, so I grabbed this opportunity to try it out. The pizza was square shaped, which is to my liking. The pork slices were tiny and hardly one on every slice. It did look tempting, those brownish pink cuties on the sea of white cheese and red pizza sauce.

IMG_20180606_172358_687.jpg

When I tasted it, I was taken aback by the strong presence of its flavor, despite of its puny size. So what I deduced is that bacon produces a very particular and sharp taste and even the slightest portion of it can bring a blast of flavors.

IMG_20180606_171852_131.jpg

So the bacon somewhat overpowered against all the other flavors of a garlic-y pizza sauce and smooth cheese. Also the thin crust made the pizza really light, crunchy and more enjoyable.

BEERMOSA –

Surprisingly, I don’t indulge myself into cocktails, and yet 2 of the 5 entries are cocktails. That brings us to beermosa, and if you could trace its origins to its cousin ‘mimosa’, you could easily see what its made of.

IMG_20180606_172245_885.jpg

A simple fusion of beer and orange juice, this drink is delightfully, what do I say, bubbly and cheerful, perhaps. Its like you realize you are growing up, but are not actually an adult yet.So its THE drink for you if you are in your early 20’s. The young adult craving some beer, while the inner child still happily committed to orange juice!

IMG_20180606_165554_630.jpg

The slice of lime does the trick of making it photogenic and drool worthy. Its a perfect example of ‘cherry on the cake’, something which you hardly eat but the dish is incomplete without one!

COFFEE INFUSED ROSGULLA –

Each ‘Top 5’ list has to have a dessert! This dessert earned its spot here, not because it was mouth watering, had insta worthy photos or was loaded with nutella. But, its here because of the concept and its decently well execution.

IMG_20180606_171930_305.jpg

So rosgulla is a Bengali dessert whose main ingredient is coagulated milk and sugar. So what they serve here is, instead of milk, rosgulla are made up primarily of coffee and with crushed cookie crumbs inside. Its served with a scoop of coffee ice cream and garnished with biscuit crumble.

It might not be the most attractive or tasty dessert, but their innovation and efforts are worth appreciation.
